Fabulous Friday

Today is the last full day of camp and the week has flown by.  Due to the heat we changed up our normal routine.  This morning we added an additional session of swimming and arts and crafts under the pavilion.  The Ukulele's where finished today and the group practiced together for the first time.

For lunch we enjoyed Brothers BBQ donated and served by the younger women's club of Louisville.  As an organization that depends on the generosity of the community we appreciate all our sponsors this week.  YOU make this camp possible.  Thank you for your support!

This afternoon we passed out Lego's donated by Aiden's Legacy.  They where a hit!  There where some really neat sets and it gave the campers a reason to stay indoors and enjoy the AC.  We also went swimming and offered a session of indoor archery which the campers really enjoyed.  After dinner we headed back to the cabins to get ready for the DANCE! We are about halfway through the dance and we just finished the camp video.  All campers will receive a copy of the camp video along with their yearbooks later on in the fall.

We will see everyone in the morning for pick up from 9am -10:30am. Good night from everyone at Indian Summer Camp!

Graduation Day

What another great day at Indian Summer Camp!  This morning we had "visitors" who had been ship wrecked.  We helped them locate their luggage and build rafts to sail across the pool.  Cabin one smoked the competition and came in first place.

We had a delicious lunch of chicken fingers, fries, and toast from Cane's.  After lunch the girls had the opportunity to pick out dresses for the dance tomorrow.  The guys chose from a collection of Hawaiian shirts for their dance attire.  We also made soap, played in the pool, and enjoyed arts and crafts under the pavilion.

This evening dinner was donated by Zaxby's and delivered and served by Cub Bank.  Thanks to all for the wonderful dinner.  Tonight we hosted the talent show and closing campfire.  Wow, what a talented group of campers and staff.  There was singing, magic, rapping, comedy, and more.  It was one of the best talent show's we have had at camp!  We also had a graduation ceremony for our oldest campers.

Right now the oldest campers are making s'mores and the rest of the cabins are headed to bed.  Good night from everyone at Indian Summer Camp!

All aboard the USS Indian Summer!

Today was another busy day at camp. We started the morning like usual with polar bear swim, yoga, and the running group.  We had some great visitors today at camp.  We had an artist come today and she led a painting workshop.  The paintings turned out wonderful and the campers had a good time.

The graduating seniors took a special field trip today.  They went to see Baby Driver at the movie theater and then went to a Hibachi restaurant for lunch.   Back at camp, Papa Johns sponsored lunch and we filled our bellies with cheese, pepperoni and sausage pizza.  Thank you for the generous donation!

Today was filled with activities.  This afternoon we had manicures from Jamberry, and we made soap in the dining hall.   We also enjoyed snow balls from Snow What.  It was a hot afternoon so the indoor activities were popular.  For the next few days we will be altering our schedule to make sure campers are staying well hydrated and out of the sun during the hottest part of the day.  We'll swim in the morning and offer indoor and shaded activities in the afternoon.  We also set up a misting station under the pavilion.

For dinner we enjoyed Mission BBQ, mac and cheese, green beans and blueberry cobbler.  After dinner we had inflatables similar to the ones from family day.  They were a huge hit.  Once the sun went down we began glow in the dark games.  Cabins completed challenges and received puzzle pieces.  Once their puzzle was complete they came to the dining hall to enjoy their prize. We set up a glow in the dark dance and icecream party.  Right now all the campers are tucked into their beds and the staff is setting up the dining hall for a game in the morning.

Good night from all the campers and staff at Indian Summer Camp!

Skating the Day Away......

Tuesday was another great day at camp!  The day began with yoga and polar bear swim.  We had a smaller crowd than yesterday but those that attended were enthusiastic.  After breakfast we headed to Champs in Lexington for the field trip.  At Champs we played games, roller skated, played lazer tag, played putt-putt, and had unlimited pizza for lunch.  After the fieldtrip we made a small detour to Bruster's Icecream to enjoy a cold treat.

After the bus ride back to camp, we had dinner donated by Volare.  We enjoyed lasagna, penne and meatballs, garlic bread, salad, and cheesecake.   It was really delicious.  Thank you to Volare for the wonderful meal, everyone left the dining hall will full bellies and big smiles.  Our evening activity is swimming and a movie.  We are wrapping up swim time now and will be starting the Lego Batman movie soon.  Another great day at ISC is in the books!

Good night from everyone at Indian Summer Camp.

Monday Funday!

The day started out bright and early at 7:00am with Polar Bear Swwiiimmm!  We had 18 campers join us, while it wasn't freezing it was really fun.  With a new camp comes new activities.  This morning we also offered running (4 campers participated) and yoga (12 campers participated). It was a active morning!

After breakfast the activities crew led a new game that was donated by Archerytag.com.  Archery tag combines archery and dodgeball (safely, we promise!).  It was a big hit with the older campers.  Today a small group of campers started building Ukulele's.  They began assembly today and in the next few days they will finish their designs, decorate them, and begin to play.  We will keep you updated on their progress.  We also built a mini recording studio here at camp and started making a recording of the camp song.  Each cabin will get to write additional verses of the song with things that they think make Indian Summer Camp so special.  It should be really neat when it's all finished.

After working up an appetite we enjoyed lunch donated by Mark's Feed Store.  The BBQ really hit the spot!  The afternoon was busy with swimming, arts and crafts, basketball and a visit from the Kona Ice Truck.  Dinnertime rolled around and we had chips, queso, tacos and Mexican rice.  After dinner the band Black Friday preformed a concert in the pavilion.  They where really good and both the campers and the staff had a great time dancing and singing along.  Right now we are getting ready for bed.  Cabins 1 & 2 are camping out tonight by the creek and making s'mores.  Each cabin will get the opportunity to camp at the lower field one night this week.   Tomorrow we are off to Champs in Lexington for rolling skating, lazer tag, and games.

Good night from Indian Summer Camp!

Day One of Fun!

The day started off with our staff eagerly awaiting our campers arrivals! We woke up, fueled up, and finished up decorating. Once the Jimmy Johns arrived, we were ready for the day! Everyone enjoyed inflatable jumpies, water games, popcorn, and music.

Our dinner of spaghetti, alfredo, salad, and breadsticks was amazing. Then, we had some free time before heading down to our opening campfire. Indian Summer Camp welcomed three new campers and multiple new staff members. Coming to camp for the first time is a brave step and we are so grateful to welcome them into our camp family.

After the campfire, each cabin had their own meetings to talk about the rules, expectations, and schedules for the week. There were some pretty well thought out guidelines created by each cabin.
Now, our campers are snuggled tightly in their bunks. Tomorrow is our first full day of camp and we are looking forward to a great day.  Goodnight from Indian Summer Camp.

Fantastic Friday Voyage

Numbers were a little low for Polar Bear Swim this morning, but after fueling up with breakfast we hit the campground running! Cabin and Camper Choices were dominated by the creation of popsicle stick boats for the afternoon boat race, archery tag, arts & crafts, fishing and gem mining in the creek.

We then enjoyed yummy hamburgers and hotdogs donated and cooked by the fine folks at Atmos Energy. BIG THANK YOU to their team for not only providing lunch, but also donating and handing out goodie bags to our campers!

Our afternoon was filled with swimming, a spirited water balloon battle, and then everyone headed to the creek to race their boats. Some boats floated along smoothly while others did not, but luckily we all had fun cheering them on! We also had a great visit from a few members of the Iron Order Motorcycle Club.

We had a yummy, frozen tropical treat and another great dinner (BBQ) donated and served by the employees of Luckett & Farley. Major shout out to them for their donations and traveling to camp to help serve our campers- it was a big hit!

Since this was our last dinner together, our fabulous med staff had to give out the overall clean cabin award. To nobody’s surprise the girls from Cabin #2 took home the ultimate Grand Clean Cabin Award. Way to go girls!

Everyone was super excited to get ready and head to the dance this evening. We had any amazing closing dance! The music was rocking, everyone was dancing the night away and having an absolute ball!

It’s been such a great week here at Indian Summer Camp. Thank you to all the parents who sent their kiddos to join us for this amazing adventure. We’ll see you in the morning for camper pick up at 9am.

Shipwrecked Thursday

What another great day at Indian Summer Camp packed full of fun! Polar Bear Swim may have gotten rained out, but it didn’t stop us from enjoying the rest of the day completely rain free!

Our morning was filled with gem mining and swimming before cabins started constructing their “shipwrecked” boats. Each cabin was given a pool noodle, duct tape and rope in order to put together rafts. Then each cabin faced off to see which boat could get across the pool the fastest. Cabin #1 ended up with the victory after some creative use of their rope!

After a yummy lunch, the afternoon was jammed packed with arts & crafts where the campers made mermaid tiaras and Popsicle boats for the creek. We also had fishing, basketball, and inflatable archery tag target practice. Campers are also earning lots of coins for good deeds and spending them at “Candy Kait’s” Candy Shop!

We had a delicious chicken finger dinner before heading to our closing campfire where we sang songs, performed hilarious skits, and sent up our wishes with paper lanterns.

Everyone is now getting ready for bed so they will be well rested for our last full day of camp tomorrow. Sending lots of Kids Cancer Alliance love from Indian Summer Camp!

A Tropical Adventure Awaits

We kicked off Day 3 in the best way possible: by welcoming our awesome Day Campers! We enjoyed a biscuit and gravy breakfast before starting our jam-packed day. Our morning activities began with mermaid training and gem mining at the creek. We even got to use some of our gems we collected to make some funky new necklaces!

The afternoon brought more activities, such as cake decorating and cape making with Capes for Courage, followed by a riveting game of archery tag in the fields.

We then feasted on a delicious barbecue dinner with mac and cheese, green beans, and corn bread from Mission BBQ. After dinner we were mesmerized by the magical work of Matthew David Stanley and his side kick bunny, Dexter.

Now our younger boy campers are down by the creek having their fun night of camping out and making their own cinnamon sugar doughnuts for dessert. While they are hanging out under the stars, our other campers are playing glow in the dark freeze tag before bed.

We are looking forward to another fun-filled day tomorrow. Goodnight from all of us here at Indian Summer Camp!
