An Amazing End to an Amazing Week

It was a jammed packed but great end to our week. Polar Bear was well attended with 63 people before everyone headed to breakfast to fuel up for the day.
It was an action packed morning as we went to Bazooka Ball. Teams strategized to defeat one another in an exciting games and challenges.
We enjoyed Sloppy Joes for lunch donated by the Church of the Annunciation in Shelbyville- THANK YOU, it was a great meal!
After lunch the Kentucky State Troopers came out to demonstrate the robot their special operations officers use. It was super neat! And they even stuck around to give us a shotgun start to our 2016 Camp Wacky Olympic Games. Each cabin competed against each other at 13 different challenge stations to see which cabins would have the best over all times. Challenges ranged from water tug-of-war in the pool to mattress surfing in Cabin 2. Drum roll for the final results.....Cabin 1 took home the Bronze Medal, Cabin 5 came in second with the Silver Medals , and the Boys from Cabin 10 won the Gold! Way to go athletes!
We were all super hungry by the time dinner came around so we thoroughly enjoyed our pasta dinner donated by the Church of the Annunciation once again! How awesome are they to donate two meals in one day?
Anticipation was in the air as everyone left dinner to get ready for the big dance. The girls all looked gorgeous in their dresses and the boys looked handsome, as always, as danced the night away.
It's been such an amazing week and we can't thank the parents enough for letting us care for and love your children for the week. It's going to be hard to say good-byes tomorrow, but we all created lots of lifelong memories and friendships.
Some tired campers are going to be very happy to see all of you in the morning for check out between 9-11. Until next year- goodnight from Indian Summer Camp!

Wonderful Wednesday & Terrific Thursday, Double the Fun Blog Post

We apologize for the delayed blog post from Wednesday, however Mother Nature had plans that we weren't aware of and we had a power outage. But prior to that we had a great day!
Here's a recap:
We had the awesome Capes for Courage out and every camper got to make their own super hero cape. The Therapy Dogs also made a visit out and put on an agility show. In addition, every camper had a "Flashes of Hope" photo session.
A delicious chicken lunch was provided by Kyle Kuric, who also visited with the kids and shot some hoops- THANK YOU KYLE!
After lunch, we alternated between Arts & Crafts and Swimming. We also had a few special visitors: Josh "Jorts" Harrellson and Darius Miller, former UK basketball players came out to visit. In addition, an amazing Ice Cream Sunday Bar.
BIG THANKS to St. Patrick's Church who provided a lasagna & spaghetti dinner. It was GOOD!!!
Unfortunately, our Bazooka Ball game was cancelled due to weather, but we made the most of the night with a bonfire. Don't fear- we rescheduled Bazooka Ball for Friday morning.

TODAY'S RECAP:
Everyone must be getting tired as the week goes along because our Polar Bear Swim numbers have been dwindling...we were down to just 64 this morning. But most of those are still in the running for the Polar Bear Swim medal if they continue to go every day.
After breakfast, we participated in Archery, Fishing, lots of Arts & Crafts, and Swimming. The graduating campers headed to Bluegrass Indoor Karting for go-cart racing action.
Raising Cane's generously donated a scrum-didly-umcious lunch- THANKS Raising Cane's.
This afternoon, we were lucky enough to have the Iron Order Motorcycle Crew visit and give out goodie bags AND SnoWhat Snowballs (shaved ice) came out- YUM! Plus, we still packed in lots more swimming and Arts & Crafts.
Robert Thurman & Friends spent the entire day at camp making Steaks, Pork Chops, and Baked Potatoes on the big smokers for our dinner.
A big group went on an evening hike and then we headed to our closing campfire. At the campfire, we had some hilarious skits, songs, trivia, and a graduation ceremony for our graduating seniors. We have been so lucky to have them at Indian Summer Camp and hope they come back as counselors.
Everyone is now getting tucked into bed so they can rest up for our last full day of camp fun tomorrow.
Good night to all from Indian Summer Camp!

Indian Summer Camp hits Coney Island!

After getting up for an early breakfast, we loaded up the buses to head to Coney Island theme park for a day of rides, splashes and excitement! Our campers piled out the buses to conquer the rides first. Some spun, some went fast, but all put a smile on the kids faces. After a lunch of hotdogs, brats, coleslaw and baked beans, our camper threw on more sunscreen and headed to the water park. They flew down water slides, jumped off diving boards and had a wet and wild time! Once we got back to camp, we enjoyed a dinner of barbecue chicken and enjoyed a relaxing evening of free time including time in the pool and some arts and crafts. Thus ending another grand Indian Summer Camp adventure!

A Rockin' Monday at Indian Summer Camp!

Wow! What an amazing Monday at Indian Summer Camp today! Over 100 campers & staff showed up for Polar Bear Swim this morning at 7:00 to kick off the morning. After fueling up with breakfast, we headed out for a jammed packed day.
We had a beautiful celebration of life ceremony to honor those we've lost this past year.
After, Aiden's Lego Legacy brought AWESOME lego sets that campers LOVED. Then everyone ventured down and learned how to play Pickleball. It was a blast!
We worked up an appetite so Mark's Feed Store's lunch hit the spot and got us ready for an afternoon full of Arts & Crafts, Swimming, and Kona Ice...YUM!
Thanks so CUB Bank in Shelbyville for the dinner from Zaxby's!
The day was capped off with an AMAZING concert made possible by the Eric Wood Foundation. "Black Friday" opened the night and they were fabulous with their old school rock jams. Then the headlining act, Joe Bachman & The Tailgators, took the stage and the crowd danced the night away. Thanks to both bands and crew for coming out- the kids (and the adults) loved every minute of it!

ISC 2016: Family Day

The Indian Summer Camp volunteers woke up this morning super excited to welcome campers to Indian Summer Camp 2016! After last minute preparations, the gates were opened and the camper families came rolling in.
Thanks to Churchill Downs and their sponsorship of Family Day, families were able to enjoy Ice Cream, Cotton Candy, Face Painters, Balloon Artists, Inflatables, a DJ, a Photobooth, and lunch from KFC. It was a fantastic kickoff to camp week, so THANK YOU Churchill Downs!
After parents headed out, cabins decorated their cabin flags before enjoying a salad & pizza dinner. After dinner we did our "all camp photo" and then we began our Olympic march (cabin flags and all) to the campfire circle for our Opening Ceremony campfire. The Opening Ceremonies included songs, skits, and goodies. We also presented the courageous first-time campers bravery feathers.
Hug & tuck patrol (nurses and pharmacists) are going around to cabins now tucking everyone in for a good night sleep so they will be ready for all the fun we have planned tomorrow.
Thanks to all the parents who are entrusting your children with us this week. We are honored to know each of them and to excited give them the best week ever!
