Graduation Day- Thursday

Wow, we had fun today!!!
The morning was a typical day at camp- meaning there was nothing typical about it! But we did do more circus practice, more arts and crafts, fishing, and archery.
The graduating campers got to go on their outing today. A limo picked them up and took them to Lexington for lunch, putt-putt, and laser tag.
We had Raising Canes chicken for lunch which fueled us for an afternoon full of swimming and visitors. The Iron Order motorcycle crew brought out their motorcycles, Kyle Kuric and Luke Hancock visited, as well as Josh Harrelson.
After a pork & steak dinner we had our closing campfire where we had a heartfelt graduation campfire and memorial before roasting s'mores.

It's getting late in the week so everyone was pretty ready for bed tonight. Tomorrow is a very big day so be ready to read all about it!

Wacky Wednesday

What a great day at Indian Summer Camp!
The morning started off with Polar Bear swim fresh and early at 7am and after breakfast, campers went on their way to camper and cabin choice. Some went fishing to see who could catch the biggest fish while others caught some very large moss. Other campers started perfecting their chosen circus skills. Let's just say we have lots of rising circus stars! We have many contenders battling for the Davy Crockett award at archery and the competition for the clean cabin award is heating up.
Hot dogs and macaroni were donated for lunch by Texas Roadhouse. After lunch, campers got to hang out with the University of Kentucky football team, enjoyed some delicious Kona Ice, and got wacky goodies provided by We Get To, Wacky Wednesday. THANK YOU....the kids LOVED the goodies!
After swim time and arts and crafts, we had a pasta dinner donated and served by St. Patrick's Church. The oldest cabins got to play Bazooka ball tonight since their game got rained out the night before and they had a blast!
The evening activity tonight was a night swim. It was a little cooler tonight than the last few days, but nobody seemed to mind!
Everyone is now resting peacefully in their bunks dreaming about all the fun we are going to have tomorrow.
Goodnight and sweat dreams from camp!

Field Trips!!!

This year in lieu of boat day, we tried something new- field trips! And they were a huge hit!
The oldest cabins went to SkyZone trampoline park and jumped until they were thoroughly exhausted and then refueled at the Gattiland buffet before playing all sorts of arcade games.
The younger cabins went to the Louisville Zoo and first enjoyed a demonstration where they got to meet and pet a bearded dragon and two different snakes. After lunch, we went out to explore the zoo. The favorites were the sea-lion feeding exhibit, the giraffes and the gorillas.

Everyone was back at camp safely by dinner, which was an awesome BBQ meal donated by the Smoke Doctors and Henry Christensen Church. After dinner some campers took a refreshing dip in the pool and others opted for a competitive game of bazooka ball (similar to paint ball, but with nurf balls instead of paint balls).
After this fun-filled day everyone was happy to relax and watch a movie before drifting off to sleep.
We have lots more activities and surprises tomorrow, so stay tuned!

Wet and Wild Under the Big Top

While the morning was rainy, we didn't let it stop the fun! Every cabin had rotations through the circus tent learning yo-yo tricks and trapeze. We have some rising circus stars on our hands here at ISC!
Many of the girls made colorful tu-tu's in arts and crafts while others nailed together memory boxes and braided survivor bracelets.
A delicious lunch was donated by Marks Feed Store and gave us energy for a packed afternoon.
The University of Louisville football players came out and autographed jerseys for each of the campers and played some basketball (let's just say they should stick to football- just kidding guys, we love you!).
Everyone swam, and some went on a fishing excursion. Some even practiced their archery skills.
Dinner was donated by Citizens Union Bank and Zaxby's, which everyone loved! Then we sang the night away karaoking until we couldn't keep our eyes open. Everyone is now snoozing away dreaming about the fun we are going to have tomorrow on our field trips. Older cabins are going to SkyZone trampoline park and Gattiland, while the younger campers are going to the Louisville Zoo.
We are off to sleep as well, so goodnight and ISC love!

Welcome to the Big Top- Family Day!

What a day!!! There were 40 camper families already lined up before we even opened the gates for Indian Summer Camp 2013. From the time the gates were opened until now ("Lights Out" time), our day has been jammed packed with fun.
After everyone got through the check-in process, they enjoyed yummy food from Will's Grill food truck and an amazing circus performance by Cirque Du Jour. They will be at camp all week teaching the campers how to master the circus skills for their very own performance.
After parents went home, we got to know our cabin-mates and took our cabin and all-camp photos. Our pizza dinner was donated by Pop Wells and everyone loved it!
This evening we had our ceremonial opening camp fire where all new campers and staff were honored with a bravery feather. We had plenty of laughs from the goofy skits, smiles, and lots of camp song singing.
After a refreshing ice cream snack, we're all hitting the hay to rest up for our first full day of camp tomorrow!
Stay tuned so you don't miss out on the excitement and surprises!

Get Ready to Shine Under the Big Top at Indian Summer Camp 2013!

2012 ISC CAMP PHOTO

Hello Parents and Campers!
We hope you are as excited as we are about camp.  We are looking forward to seeing all our returning campers, meeting our new families, and having a wonderful week of fun and friendship.  Included are some documents we hope you find helpful.  For a note from the medical staff, directions to camp, a packing list, and other important reminders click HERE.  For the parent handbook click HERE.  Please look over both, they both have good information that will help you prepare for camp.

Camp check-in will begin at noon on Sunday, July 21st.  We will have family day activites throughout the afternoon, including lunch and a circus preformance.  Pick-up begins the morning of Saturday, July 27th.  All campers are asked to be picked up by 10:30am.

Taylorsville Lake, the site of our annual Boat day has been in the news lately.  There has been a growth of blue green algae in the water that may affect those with compromised immune systems.  While we know boat day is popular,  safety is important to the staff at ISC.  After researching the situation,  we made the decision to cancel boat day for this year.  Dr. Sherry Bayliff our medical director has included a letter detailing the decision.  The extra day gives us an opportunity to try some new things and we are in the process of planning really fun alternatives!  You won't be disappointed.

We are working hard to plan an amazing week for the campers.  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us, we are here to help.  Happy Camping!

Stay tuned to this blog, as we will be updating it throughout camp week! Please be patient with us as internet connection is spotty.
